4TH ANNUAL MEMORIAL DAY
PROCESSION AND COMMEMORATION

Friends of Evergreen Cemetery’s fourth annual Memorial Day Procession and Program, a commemoration of the fallen in all US wars/conflicts, is scheduled for Monday, May 29th, at 2:00 PM. The Stevens Ave. parade route begins at Longfellow School and concludes at Evergreen Cemetery’s south gate near the Wilde Memorial Chapel.
The line of march includes Deering Memorial Post 6859 VFW color guard, a riderless horse, Claddagh Mohr Pipe Band, city officials, veterans,participants carrying signs with all the US wars/conflicts which are reminders of all the country’s fallen, flower girls, Daisy Scouts. During the brief ceremony in the cemetery the flowers girls will scatter flower petals over nearby veterans graves, local historian Herb Adams will recite the World War I poem “In Flanders Field,” and there will be a symbolic laying of a wreath. The program ends with Marine Corps League, Southern Maine Detachment’s three volley salute and Taps played by Carla Beaudoin, Bugles Across America.
Following the program, local historian Herb Adams will present a talk focused on Maine’s involvement in World War I in the Wilde Memorial Chapel.

We schedule a special 2 hour program begins with a slide presentation in Wilde Memorial Chapel followed by a vehicular tour for groups of 8-10 people narrated by one of our many Docents.
